maildigest
Open source · Local-first · Cross-platform

A morning brief of your inbox.
Local AI. No subscription.

Mail Digest reads your last 24 hours of email and tells you what matters — priority, tasks, calendar events, and suggested replies. The default model runs entirely on your machine. Nothing sent to a third‑party AI vendor.

A different shape of email AI.

Most AI mail clients trade your privacy for convenience. Mail Digest keeps the inference on your machine by default, and lets you switch providers without changing your workflow.

Local by default

Gemma 3 4B runs in the app via WebGPU. The model downloads once (~2-3 GB) and stays on your machine. No API key required.

Bring your own model

One-click switch to Anthropic Claude, OpenAI GPT, Google Gemini, or a local Ollama server. Use your own API key, set your own model.

Privacy by design

Gmail OAuth tokens live in your OS keychain. Emails are fetched directly from Google to your machine — no intermediary servers, no analytics, no telemetry.

Daily brief, automatic

Set the hour. Wake up to your inbox already triaged: priority, action items, calendar events, suggested replies — ready to skim with your first coffee.

Editorial reading experience

Designed to read like a morning paper, not a notification feed. Density without noise. Serif headings, calm palette, instant scanning.

Open and inspectable

MIT licensed. Audit the prompts. Audit the network calls. Fork it. Build the integrations you actually need — not the ones a vendor decides to ship.

Three steps. About five minutes the first time.

01

Connect Gmail

Create your own OAuth credentials in Google Cloud Console — takes about three minutes. Mail Digest never sees them; they live on your machine.

02

Pick a model

Default is Gemma 3 4B running locally via WebGPU. Or paste an API key for Claude, GPT, or Gemini. You can change later, any time.

03

Hit refresh

First run downloads the model. After that, the daily brief renders in seconds. Set a time and the app does it for you every morning.

What a morning looks like.

Priority on the left. The current email on the right. Tasks, events, and a drafted reply ready to copy.

How Mail Digest is different.

The market has settled on cloud-only AI mail clients with monthly subscriptions. Mail Digest takes the opposite bet: local-first, open source, pay nothing.
